1. What new skills did you learn or what did you improve on during this unit?
A new skill I learned during this unit was creativity. I had never thought I would ever be combining a rattle snake with a pencil. They were both the most random things that came to mind and after experimenting different ways to illustrate my idea, I figured out the best way to combine the two. I also improved on my oil pastel skills. I haven't used oil pastels in a few years so I decided I'd test them out, the outcome was better than I expected.
2. How has your thinking about what original art is changed?
Before this unit, when the thought of original art came to mind, my brain automatically thought of everyday artwork such as landscapes, self portraits, and still life. It was after I was introduced to the idea of blending two regular items I realized my thought of original art changed. Combining two different and completely random objects really showed me another side of originality. My piece is truly original because; when have you ever seen someone choose to draw a rattle snake blended into a pencil.
3. What challenges or successes did you have during this unit? Would you change anything you did if you could go back and re-do it?
Some challenges I had during this unit were not knowing if I should have a background or not. I was unsure if I was to make a detailed background or not, so I put a few pebbles in the bottom right corner of my drawing. The two things I would change if I could go back and re-do my drawing would be to make a background that looks like the ground of a desert, with pebbles scattered around the paper and to add more details such as scales to my snake side of my snake-pencil.
