Question 1
A. Before entering this class, I did not know much about art criticism. Sure, I could infer about how much effort someone put into a piece of work or if they are artistically "inclined" or not just like any other person could, but I still just did not know what art criticism truly meant. I had taken a few art classes when I was younger and took art in the eighth grade at Apex Middle. I always thought I had been all right at art throughout my life. I just did not know exactly what I was capable of and what I was not. I was afraid of what others would think about my work and how others would react when I have them input on their work.
B. After this class, Ms. Purtee and my peers made me somewhat understand exactly what art criticism is and how it effects your views on your own work. Whether the critism is helpful or not, it helps you understand how others view your work and see you as an artist. No students ever used harsh words that made you feel badly towards yourself or your artwork. Helpful is the only word I can use to describe art criticism. It has helped my art skills and showed me there is always something you can do to make your art even better.
Question 2
A. In my time in Art 1, I learned many useful/important terms that affected my views on art overall. Perspective is a big one. I had never really payed attention to it but I have learned that we use perspective in our everyday lives. It's how you see something and
the depth of it. When you look at a drawing, there's much more than just a person with a pencil moving their hand on a canvas. There's thought behind it, there is emotion behind it that conveys a theme. Another useful thing I learned was to plan ahead. I used Pinterest to find ideas about what I should do for projects. I would also list things related to a topic which helped me think of other pieces to include in my artwork.
B. It was overall a fun class that really helped my art skills. There is not much I would change except the blog posts. I personally believe an art class grade should be reflected on your actual artwork, not what you have to say about it. The blog posts are a good idea for the teacher to get an idea of what your artwork is about and what motivated you to create it which I understand, but i think the actual artwork you create should be graded also. I understand not everyone is amazing at art, but if you actually put hard work and time into anything, anyone can make a piece look great.
